To explore integration of innovative technologies into urban and community design, UPDIS) in collaboration with the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and international planning and communication organization ARQ, jointly launched the "Community 2050" International Design Competition. The Competition was launched on research-focused international platform, 'Non Architecture', selecting two cities—Shenzhen, China, and Amsterdam, Netherlands—as the areas of study.

Within four and a half months since its launch, "Community 2050" competition received applications from nearly 1,700 international teams worldwide, a large number of professional and creative design proposals were received. The competition invited distinguished international jury, including Sima Xiao, President of UPDIS; former Chief Architect of Barcelona, Vicente Guallart; MVRDV Asia Director, Steven Smit; UNStudio Partner, Astrid Piber; ARCity Office Founder, Zhang Yuxing; and Alain Chiaradia, Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Design at the University of Hong Kong. These six internationally renowned designers evaluated the design submissions.

The "Community 2050" competition featured two categories: a Professional Group open to urban designers, architects, and landscape designers, and an Open Group for non-architecture professionals, experts from other fields, and students. The total prize was €24,000, with 19 teams receiving awards and honor nominations in various categories.
