From 19-22 September 2023, Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong led a delegation to Malaysia to attend the China (Shenzhen, Hong Kong) – ASEAN (Kuala Lumpur) Emerging Industries Matching Conference. This year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s proposal to build a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future. In July 2023, the first China-ASEAN Emerging Industries Forum was held in Shenzhen. To further consolidate and expand the Forum's cooperation achievements, the China (Shenzhen, Hong Kong) – ASEAN (Kuala Lumpur) Emerging Industries Matching Conference was held in Kuala Lumpur on September 21, 2023. Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, Malaysian Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau, and Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Peter Lam delivered speeches. Over 200 enterprises from ASEAN, Shenzhen and Hong Kong participated, resulting in the signing of 22 cooperation projects with a total value exceeding RMB 10 billion, covering electrochemical energy storage materials, smart cities, medical devices, and more.
